Hard figures and convincing words

I essentially offer two different types of financial translations. Some texts serve purely to inform. These are often very concise and require a translation that follows the original closely. For example, balance sheets, consolidated financial statements and auditors’ reports.

I also specialise in financial marketing. Here, examples of texts include marketing materials for asset management companies, websites of trading platforms for cryptoassets, and instructions for customer support staff on how to handle email and telephone enquiries.

Such texts may require a far freer translation to ensure that they are suitable for German readers. Legal aspects may also need to be borne in mind. Due to differences in the legislation, EU residents must be given other information on data protection than US residents, for example. References in English texts to aspects such as new US laws on the taxation of cryptointerest may be irrelevant for German customers and must instead be replaced with information that is more relevant to them.

In such cases, the translation must be adapted to the audience; simply providing the same information as in the original document isn’t appropriate.
